Two installations by Tiffany Sassafrass made from items kept by the artist's father during his life.  By his invitation, Sassafrass remembers and honours her father.  Tiffany writes, "before my dad died last October her father asked her to make an artwork using his belongings.  I have started by sewing up some of his paperwork and sorting through his things.  This process is a healing journey for me and is unlocking memories from my childhood.  Memories of my father."

Celebration of Colour - Colours are like people, colours have personalities; colours interact with other colours, creating vibrations, setting up resonances; colours sing, shout, whisper; colours are sometimes sad, sometimes joyous; colours are symbols that talk without words and are part of our language.  Let us celebrate the colours of clouds and of sky, let us rejoice in the colours of trees and of mountains, of ocean waves and little hills and, above all, may we celebrate the range of colours of skin that enrich this planet. Gallery opening times:  Thursday to Sunday, 11.00am to 4.00pm.  Entry is free.

The colourful Grand Opening is Friday, 19th February at 6.30pm followed by dinner ($15 if booked).  To make a booking phone the gallery on 6689 7449.

On the Easel this month will feature Kyogle's Black Horse Creek Community's 350 Climate Change Quilt.  For many years, the community has enjoyed marking special occasions with collaborative quilts.  350 represents the safe upper limit of carbon dioxide in Earth's atmosphere, measured in parts per million (ppm).  350ppm is the point to which the planet must return (currently 389) to stabilise climate.  The people's 350 movement called for leaders to make sweeping, positive changes to protect our world when they met at the UN climate conference at Copenhagen.

Richard Dymock studied at Southern Cross University and has used his fertile imagination and the everyday for his contribution to the current exhibition, The Everyday. The inspiration for Richard's work comes from poster design, monsters, fridge magnets, puzzles, loose colour and humour. His co-exhibitor, Robert Cottam, also studied at SCU. Born in London, he grew up in Australia and the United Arab Emirates. The idea behind his paintings is to capture the sense of hyper-modern reality in daily life. The Byron Bay Film Festival is an initiative of the Byron Community and Cultural Centre and local filmmakers. The Byron Bay and Northern NSW region is home to many filmmakers and so when the inaugural Byron Bay Film Festival was held in February 2006 we focused solely on Australian films and the back catalogue of our local filmmakers. Byron Bay is a magnet for people from all around the globe and so it seemed fitting that BBFF should metamorphosis into an International Film Festival in its second year. In 2007 our festival featured over 100 films from 24 different countries, including 46 Australian premieres and 15 world premieres. Byron Bay’s international reputation encouraged filmmakers from China, Sri Lanka, the USA & the UK to attend the festival.

On stage, Matt is unpredictable. Sometimes a placid puppy content to perform tricks, other times he prowls like a caged tiger. I've seen him croon a sweet song revealing great sensitivity and fragility. A hushed audience then responds in transfixed awe. Suddenly Matt's rocking out and screaming like a banshee. He's so at home on stage that nothing throws him. I've witnessed him cut hecklers in half with comebacks that could stump professional comedians (I've seen him do that too!).

The aim of the day is to give participants an opportunity to experience working with plant fibre as a source for forming paper, as well as using some recycled materials to form sheets. Plant fibre is strong, versatile and a lot of fun to play with and we live in an area that provides an excellent variety of fibre types. I hope that people will go away armed with enthusiasm and information to make paper from their own environment. We will also be dying paper pulp and looking at different ways to combine different sources for paper making.  The workshop goes from 10am to 3pm and costs $80.

As part of the Generator Development Program NORPA is hosting four Creative Development residencies in 2010.  Each residency will be holding a showing open to the public of the work they have been developing. The first Generator showing for 2010 is Sydney based theatre collective For We Are Many (F.W.A.M) on Thursday, 1 April at the Lismore City Hall. F.W.A.M is a Sydney based theatre collective whose two core members are Director/Performer Scarlet McGlynn and Writer/Performer Phil Spencer. F.W.A.M produces theatre that is experimental, accessible and embraces hybrid art forms. F.W.A.M's latest production Boxing Day is set in the tiny seaside village of Tair Lair and is a mysterious, playful and intriguing family story. Whilst ten your old Freya, plots to keep her dad home from the oil rig for a little longer, Nana Ditti is attached to her old transister radio - dancing and dreaming of Johnnie Ray.  Fresh from a showing as part of the Wharf 2 loud program at the Sydney Theatre this will be F.W.A.M's second development of the work as they look at further developing this theatre based work and incorporating hip hop and visual elements.  Start time is 5.30pm and approximate running time is 30 minutes.  Cost is free.
